"Seller Says"

The things I love about New Bern is that it is easy to reach almost any point in ten minutes or less and there is very little traffic. The town also has an airport that is large enough to support more than one carrier. Flying is easy and convenient because you do not need to be at the airport hours before flying. And when you fly back home you will be only minutes from the house.

Our neighborhood is great for meeting other people. It is a stable golf course community that also has tennis and swimming. Although all of the yards are very nicely maintained most of the work with exception of the immediate area around the house is owned and maintained by the golf course. Our neighborhood also has the largest proportion of volunteers of any place I have ever lived. Meeting others and becoming involved is very easy.

When we bought the property we were drawn to the lovely views afforded by the golf course. The lake located in the back provides beautiful sunsets. The house and garage feature a maintenance free exterior that kept our maintenance costs low. The entire area is filled with azaleas . All plantings on our property were put in place by a landscape architect who grew up in he area and used native plants. The yard always has something blooming but it takes minimal upkeep. The grass portion of the lawn is fairly small so although it does need to be mowed it is not a lengthy job. The house is one of the highest homes in the area which minimizes any chance of flooding even during record rainfall.

We love to eat anywhere that serves eastern NC barbeque. Both Moore's and Smithfield are perfect for finding complete southern barbeque meal. Captain Ratty's and Persimmons are wonderful for either lunch or dinner dining and make good use of daily fresh catches from the coast.

Three major grocery stores are within a mile and a half of the house. A fourth is being built within that radius. You can easily find anything you want and there is also good variety of prices and products. In addition there are two major box stores that provide groceries as well that are within the same radius. A quick trip for an item really is a quick trip!

The New Bern area is wonderful for feeling like you are on vacation year around. People love to visit from colder climates. The ease of getting in and out of a smaller airport makes visiting attractive. New Bern is just one hour from the coast. So for persons who enjoy the ocean but do not want to live right at the beach New Bern provides a slightly inland town that has plenty of costal attitude.

Something else worth mentioning is that the medical community has many skilled providers. There is an excellent hospital and many medical specialists located minutes from the house.

We enjoyed bicycling, walking, and kayaking in and around town. Both the North Carolina History Center and the Tryon Palace are great place to find out about North Carolina. The convention center brings in a number of cultural events to town every year.

As pet owners we enjoy going to Glenburnie Park to use the dog park and walking trails around the park. We enjoy art and there are multiple studios and stores downtown that support artists. Carolina Creations has a wide variety of wares from NC artists, many of them local. Bear Hands Art Factory has great supplies and classes. The Emerald golf course, designed by Rees Jones, is challenging and fun. New Bern hosts the MS 150 bike ride and has many places for safe cycling.

All utilities with the house are still actively maintained. Termite and quarterly pest control coverage has been continued through Terminix. Electric and water service is reasonable and received through the City of New Bern. Our gas account is with AmeriGas.
